Sacred Reminders – Post 3: When the Soul Leads — The Real Meaning of Shukrana

When the Soul Leads — The Real Meaning of Shukrana

Gratitude is often spoken of as a practice—something we do.

We write lists, we say “thank you,” we count our blessings.

But real Shukrana—true, soul-rooted gratitude—is not a performance.

It is a presence.

It flows from within when the soul, not the ego, is in the driver’s seat.

It arises not just when things go well, but especially when they don’t—because the soul knows that even the pain is sacred.

There was a time I offered gratitude only when I received what I wanted.

Now, I offer it for everything—even the things that made me cry, break, and lose.

Because I see: those moments brought me back to myself.

True Shukrana is not selective.

It doesn’t wait for things to be perfect.

It is what you feel when your spirit is wide awake and your heart is open to the divine intelligence at work in all things.

When the soul leads, you begin to say thank you for the lessons, not just the blessings.

You say:

Thank you for what was taken from me—because it cleared space for what is meant for me.

Thank you for the discomfort—because it pushed me to grow.

Thank you for the silence—because I found my voice within it.

This is the Shukrana that transforms.

It humbles the mind.

It softens the heart.

It anchors the spirit.

Sacred Reflection:

“When my soul leads, gratitude is not a practice—it is a state of being.

In every rise and fall, I say: Shukrana.

Responses Reveal the truth

“Our responses reveal more than we realise — how open-hearted we are, how accepting we are… or how cringy our unhealed bits still feel. Every reaction is a mirror. Every moment is a chance to soften.”
