Knowing Better — Seeing Through Manipulation
There was a time when I didn’t know better.
I moved from a place of innocence, of trust, of heart.
And because of that, others took the lead.
They told me what to do, what to think, what was “best” for me—
all while serving their own interests.
I followed.
Not out of weakness, but out of purity.
Because I didn’t yet see how manipulation dresses itself up as love.
How control wears the mask of care.
But now, I see clearly.
And when you begin to know better,
those who once benefitted from your silence, your confusion, your compliance—
they flinch.
They retreat.
They twist the story.
Because your clarity disrupts their comfort.
But here’s what I know now:
When you know better, you are no longer available for manipulation.
When you know better, your energy becomes your own again.
When you know better, you stop abandoning yourself for the approval of others.
And those who lie to themselves—
will lie to everyone else, too.
But their truth is not your truth.
Their story is not your story.
So I continue to rise in awareness.
To reclaim the voice that was once guided by the wrong hands.
To say gently but firmly:
“No more.”
⸻
Sacred Reflection:
“Knowing better is the beginning of becoming.
I honour what I see now—and I will never unsee it.”
