The Unseen Resistance: Honouring the Voice Within

There are days when the world asks something of us—a phone call, a visit, a reconnection—and yet, something within us goes still. It’s not quite fear, not quite defiance, but a quiet no that rises gently from the soul.

Today, I felt that pull. The push of expectation from voices outside me, urging me to reach out, to make a simple gesture of connection. And yet, my inner world didn’t echo their urgency. Instead, it held a soft resistance, a weight I couldn’t name.

This isn’t about the act itself. Sometimes it’s just a call, just a message. But underneath, there’s a history. There are invisible threads—memories, emotions, perhaps even wounds—that tie our actions to something deeper. And when those threads tug, we feel it not just in our minds, but in our bodies and spirits too.

In spiritual practice, we learn to listen. Not just to the guidance of others, but to the quieter, wiser voice within. That voice doesn’t always make sense to the world. It doesn’t always follow what’s expected. But it carries truth. Sometimes, our resistance is not laziness or avoidance, but a signpost pointing to something unhealed, something that needs our attention before we move forward.

So today, I didn’t force myself. I sat with the discomfort. I let the silence speak. I asked, gently: What is it that you’re trying to tell me? And while no words came, there was a sense of acknowledgment. A sacred pause.

There is wisdom in the pause. In a culture that worships action, urgency, and reconciliation on command, the pause is revolutionary. It is a moment of self-respect. It is where true healing begins—not through performance, but through presence.

To anyone feeling that same inner resistance: you’re not wrong for needing time. You’re not wrong for listening to the part of you that isn’t ready. This too is part of the path. Honoring what is unspoken within us is often the most spiritual act of all.

Responses Reveal the truth

“Our responses reveal more than we realise — how open-hearted we are, how accepting we are… or how cringy our unhealed bits still feel. Every reaction is a mirror. Every moment is a chance to soften.”

To provide for one’s significant other is an act of love and care, not a license to be disrespectful, mean, or controlling. True giving...
